Andre Adams claimed four wickets as Nottinghamshire’s bowlers turned the tables against Worcestershire in the LV= County Championship Division One meeting at New Road.

Having made up for batting failures when setting up victories in the first two matches, the Notts seamers did their job again in defending a modest first-innings score of 243.

Heavy overnight rain delayed the start of the second day until mid-afternoon and the subsequent conditions turned against Worcestershire until bad light intervened when they were 72 for six, still 22 short of avoiding the follow-on.

Not only did they have to bat in poor light but there was also a hint of inconsistent bounce in some of the five leg-before decisions that followed a solid start by the opening pair.

Captain Daryl Mitchell and the impressive Australian Michael Klinger resumed with five runs on the board and looked untroubled in taking the total to 35 with four boundaries between them.

Things only went wrong when Klinger, on 22, was drawn forward by Adams and nicked a straightforward chance to Samit Patel at second slip.

Vikram Solanki has yet to get going on the tricky early-season surfaces and again looked out of sorts as he began a procession of leg-before dismissals; the former England international was trapped on the crease by Ben Phillips.

Adams may not be he sharpest of frontline seamers, but, at the age of 36, he rarely misses an opportunity to exploit English pitches.

An unerring line, coupled with just enough movement, was too much for Worcestershire’s middle-order stroke-makers.

Alexei Kervezee has yet to reach 20 in six innings so far and a second-ball dismissal saddled him with his third duck in four attempts.

Moeen Ali got off the mark with an imperious shot off Phillips and added a second boundary off Harry Gurney, but the ball which did for him - angled in by Adams from around the wicket - may have kept a shade low.

Ben Scott followed in the next over from Gurney, though James Cameron and Aneesh Kapil were hanging on when the umpires decided the light had worsened after only five deliveries in the post-tea session.

With Worcestershire still 171 behind, Adams will be looking for an early wrap-up when he resumes with figures of 4-23 after 10.3 overs.

The New Zealander has now taken 17 championship wickets this season, including 10 in two clashes with Worcestershire.
