Notts take the spoils

Graham Onions removed the core of Yorkshire's batting order on the third day's play

Nottinghamshire survived an early wobble to claim a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Lancashire within three days at Trent Bridge and open up a sizeable lead at the top of Division One of the LV County Championship.

Starting the day 33 for one in pursuit of 145, Sajid Mahmood (3-76) took the scalps of Matthew Wood (28) and Paul Franks (four) to put the hosts on the back foot.

But Adam Voges (69 not out off 60 balls) and Mark Wagh (33no) saw the leaders home with ease before lunch.

Mark Ramprakash (nine) again fell short of his 100th first-class hundred as Surrey were ripped apart by a resurgent Hampshire.

After claiming a first-innings lead of 51 over their hosts, Surrey were reduced to 151 for seven with Matt Nicholson top-scoring with an unbeaten 40 as they took their lead to 202 with a day remaining.

Champions Sussex are in trouble against Somerset at Taunton after being asked to follow on having been dismissed for 203 in reply to the hosts’ 557 for eight.

Ben Phillips (3-34) and Peter Trego (3-49) did most of the the damage with Michael Yardy (57) top scoring.

In their second innings the visitors lost Chris Nash first ball, making it a pair for the match having faced only five deliveries, before reaching 36 for one when bad light forced the teams off.

In Division Two, Glamorgan collapsed from 301 for three to 384 all out but still claimed a first-innings advantage of 95 over Derbyshire at Cardiff.

South African Charl Langeveldt took 5-100 to lead the comeback and the visitors made it to lunch without alarm, adding four runs before rain prevented any more play.

Northamptonshire’s David Sales (62no) and Rob White (69no) added just 26 runs to their overnight 276 for three against Leicestershire before bad light resulted in the match ending in a draw at Grace Road.

Worcestershire could still lose their clash with Gloucestershire at New Road after closing the third day on 189 for nine in their first innings, still 255 runs behind.

Will Rudge did most of the damage for the visitors with 3-67 as Graeme Hick top scored with 60 off 62 balls.
