Darren Pattinson kept his name in the headlines by helping leaders Nottinghamshire claim the upper hand after the first day of their LV County Championship Division One clash with Somerset at Taunton.
The 30-year-old seamer, who made his England debut in the second-Test defeat by South Africa at Headingley Carnegie, took 5-40 off 13.1 overs as Somerset were dismissed for a meagre 106.
Pattinson's victims included former England opener Marcus Trescothick and all-rounder Ian Blackwell - both for one - as well as Zander de Bruyn (nine), Andrew Caddick (seven) and Charl Willoughby (seven).
Pattinson received support from Andre Adams, who claimed 4-39, as only four Somerset players made double figures, with Steffan Jones (27 not out) leading the way.
Nottinghamshire lost opener Matthew Wood for a duck but Bilal Shafayat (25) and Mark Wagh (46) steadied the ship before they fell to Peter Trego, who finished the day with 3-36.
Samit Patel, who was this week included in England's one-day squad for the NatWest Series, contributed 56 before he was trapped lbw by Alfonso Thomas as the visitors closed on 185 for six.
The wickets also tumbled at Chester-le-Street, where Kent dismissed Durham for 146.
Martin Saggers was the pick of the bowlers with 4-26, while Robbie Joseph and Amjad Khan claimed three wickets each as Michael Di Venuto, Mark Stoneman, Will Smith and Liam Plunkett all got into the twenties but were unable to push on.
Kent reached 43 for five at the close with only opener Joe Denly (21) able to make much of an impression as Mark Davies claimed 3-7 in five overs.
Sussex spinner Ollie Rayner took 5-65 as Lancashire were skittled for 206 on a damp day at Old Trafford.
Jason Lewry set the tone after he grabbed three top-order wickets and, despite some resistance from Steven Croft (46) and Luke Sutton (45 not out), Rayner ensured Sussex, who closed on nine without loss, enjoyed the best of the day.
Jacques Rudolph hit an unbeaten 83 to help Yorkshire recover from the loss of early wickets to reach 206 for seven against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.
Gerard Brophy chipped in with a valuable 36 as Dimitri Mascarenhas (2-23) and James Tomlinson (3-39) enjoyed the best of bowler-friendly conditions.
In Division Two, Graeme Hick struck a magnificent 149 from 151 balls as leaders Worcestershire assumed a commanding position against Derbyshire at New Road.
Ben Smith (76), Steven Davies (71) and Vikram Solanki (54) also showed form in a total of 450 for eight declared while the visitors closed on 27 without loss.
Jamie Dalrymple hit an unbeaten 103 as Glamorgan reached 258 for nine against Middlesex on a rain-hit day at Colwyn Bay.
Bottom side Gloucestershire were 256 for five against Leicestershire thanks to Marcus North's well-crafted 104. He shared a third-wicket stand of 167 with Hamish Marshall, who made 70.
