A century stand between Adam Voges and Ali Brown earned Nottinghamshire a six-wicket win over Somerset at Trent Bridge today which moved them top of LV= County Championship Division One.
The match was interestingly poised at the start of the day, with the hosts needing 149 runs to win and Justin Langer’s men requiring seven wickets.
The dangerous Charl Willoughby made an early breakthrough by claiming the scalp of Samit Patel (35).
But then Voges (73 not out) and Brown (63no) followed up their first-innings stand of 119 with an unbroken, match-clinching fifth-wicket partnership of 124.
Ninth-wicket pair Jonathan Trott (161no) and New Zealand import Jeetan Patel (120) stretched their partnership to 233 before Warwickshire were finally dismissed for 482 by Yorkshire at Edgbaston this morning, but the pair did enough to earn their side a draw.
The Tykes, with a first-innings advantage of 118, declared on 162 for three in their second dig, with Anthony McGrath (53no) and Adil Rashid (58no) among the runs.
Warwickshire were 60 for one at the close.
Champions Durham only managed five of the second-innings’ wickets they needed as Sussex held on for a draw at Hove.
The north-easterners had Michael Di Venuto (103) and Guy Muchall (106no) to thank for their second-innings 299 for four - a lead of 316.
The hosts then lost Michael Yardy (12), Ed Joyce (three) and Murray Goodwin (21) as they teetered on 92 for four, but eventually reached the close on 169 for five thanks to an unbeaten 85 from Chris Nash.
In Division Two, Middlesex fell just two runs short of victory as their match against Surrey at the Brit Oval ended in a thrilling draw.
Chasing 186 in the final session off 25 overs, Middlesex reached 169 for three with three overs remaining thanks to quickfire knocks from Phil Hughes (57 from 46 balls), Nick Compton (28) and Eoin Morgan (41 from 34).

However, the departure of Morgan sparked a dramatic collapse and the visitors eventually fell two runs short on 184 for nine, with Chris Schofield and Murtaza Hussain sharing eight wickets.
James Tredwell claimed eight second-innings wickets as Kent sealed victory over Glamorgan at Canterbury.
The hosts declared this morning on 409 for five, Martin van Jaarsveld reaching 182, to set an unattainable victory target of 385.
The Welshmen were then ripped apart by the in-form Tredwell (8-66) as they slumped to 180 all out.
Gloucestershire recorded their first championship win at Bristol since May 2006 as they beat Leicestershire by 10 wickets to go top of Division Two.
The visitors extended their second-innings total from an overnight 243 for six to 331 all out, Carl Crowe making an unbeaten 41 and Jon Lewis taking 4-39.
That left Gloucestershire only 72 to win and they reached their target by 2.31pm on the final day thanks to openers Kadeer Ali (38 not out) and Will Porterfield (32no).
An unbeaten half-century from Rob White wrapped up Northamptonshire’s first win of the season.
Captain Nicky Boje’s team have found the four-day game tough this term but after Essex could only set their hosts 176 to win on the final day, White registered 76 not out – including a match-winning six – to seal victory.
