Somerset wrapped up a 35-run win against Sussex in their LV= County Championship Division One match at Hove this afternoon.
Chasing 349 to win, Sussex were dismissed for 313 shortly after the lunch break when Robin Martin-Jenkins (27) was caught by Marcus Trescothick off Charl Willoughby (4-80).
Sussex had earlier given themselves a chance of victory as Chris Nash (134) and nightwatchman Jason Lewry (25) put on a stand of 60 for the fifth wicket.
However, Lewry and Nash’s dismissals were followed by three more wickets as Somerset seized the initiative before lunch and finished off the hosts shortly after the restart.
Worcestershire and Yorkshire shook hands on a draw on the final day at New Road with the home side 102 ahead on 203 for three in their second innings after Yorkshire’s 516.
Stephen Moore top-scored for the hosts with 52 in their second effort, while Azeem Rafiq followed up his century with 2-82 for the Tykes.
Champions Durham closed out a 10-wicket victory over Warwickshire at Edgbaston, thanks mainly to a sensational burst from England pace bowler Graham Onions.
Onions, hoping for a call-up for the first npower Test in Cardiff, claimed 7-38 as the hosts were skittled for just 177 following on in their second innings - a lead of only 20 which was knocked off by Durham’s openers in four overs.
Ian Bell was the hosts’ top scorer with 57.
It was the third day at Liverpool, where Lancashire responded well to conceding a first-innings deficit of 137 to close on 144 for two.
Dimitri Mascarenhas struck a 129-ball 108 for Hampshire, who totalled 345, while Andrew Flintoff continued his rehabilitation with 2-60.
Flintoff was on 36 at stumps after Mal Loye fell late on for 55.
In Division Two, Essex claimed the glory on an exciting final day at Tunbridge Wells as they completed a 122-run victory over Kent.
Chasing 478 to win, the hosts were well placed to survive for a draw at 107 for one at start of play, but they lost their last six wickets for 43 runs.
Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria did most of the damage with 6-92, while Joe Denly (123) and Martin van Jaarsveld (73) maintained personal pride in a total of 355 all out.
Struggling Leicestershire will be satisfied with a draw after they followed up their first-innings 165 with 487 for five against Surrey at Grace Road.
That left them 323 ahead, Boeta Dippenaar (143) and HD Ackerman (180) smashing big tons in a 314-run stand.
Glamorgan and Northamptonshire drew in Cardiff after declarations left the visitors chasing 326 to win.
That was never likely and Northants finished the match on 140 for six, Nicky Boje scoring 52.
The Welshmen had earlier declared on 232 for two, with opener Gareth Rees unbeaten on 116.
Middlesex face an uphill battle to save their match against Gloucestershire at the end of day two in Bristol.
The home team’s first innings ended on 342, a lead of 189, and Middlesex were 129 for five at stumps.
England captain Andrew Strauss lasted just three balls before being sent back to the pavilion for a duck, bowled by Jon Lewis, but Owais Shah did better with 57.
