The weather was the winner in the LV= County Championship today as four matches were abandoned for the day without a ball being bowled.

In one of only two games to get going, Yorkshire paceman Tim Bresnan turned in his most impressive figures this season as Nottinghamshire were reduced to 101 for five before bad light ended play.

The England fast bowler finished with 4-41, with Nott's only resistance coming in the form of Australian David Hussey, who stroked an unbeaten 59 from 76 balls.

Only 13.4 overs of play were possible at Southampton, where Warwickshire reached 30 without loss against Hampshire.

Ian Westwood reached 12no and fellow opener Tony Frost 15no in two brief sessions between the showers.

No play was possible today in the other Division One match between Worcestershire and Somerset at New Road.

In Division Two, play was also abandoned on the second day at Cheltenham, with Northamptonshire stuck on 175 for six in reply to Gloucestershire’s 147.

In the other games scheduled to start today, Leicestershire and Essex was also called off for the day while there was no play between Derbyshire and Middlesex this morning.
