Showers decimate county programme
There was further frustration for teams across the country as rain prevented any action in all six LV= County Championship fixtures.
Play was abandoned for the day prior to lunch at Guildford, Uxbridge, Cheltenham, Wantage Road and Edgbaston.
As a result, Surrey’s match with Lancashire ended in a draw, along with Middlesex’s meeting with Nottinghamshire, with Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Strauss unable to add to their scores of 234 and 127 respectively.
In Division Two, Gloucestershire’s game with Essex ended in a stalemate, while the opening day of Northamptonshire’s clash with Glamorgan and day three of Warwickshire versus Sussex also fell victim to the weather.
That left the Ageas Bowl as the only venue where play remained possible.
Hampshire and Yorkshire were hoping to get under way following a 1:30pm inspection, but another washout was duly confirmed.
