Newman to make Notts debut
Scott Newman is in line to make his first LV= County Championship appearance for Nottinghamshire in their Division One game against Somerset.
Batsman Newman - currently on loan from Surrey - will take a place at the top of the batting order for Friday’s game at Trent Bridge given the absence of Mark Wagh, who suffered a hip injury whilst diving in the outfield against Yorkshire last week.
Samit Patel will bat at number three, with Adam Vogues, Mark Ealham and Paul Franks making up the rest of the batting line-up.
“Scott will play and it’s an opportunity for him to show us what he can do,” said Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell.
“He’s keen to impress because it was clear that he wasn’t going to get any cricket at Surrey this season and if he performs well that he can create an opportunity here.”
Newell also admits that, with a congested fixture-list set to test his squad in the coming weeks, he will have to shuffle his pack to keep his bowlers in top form.
“We play 13 days of cricket in 15 days and that will mean that different bowlers are rested at different times,” he added.
Somerset meanwhile have only one selection worry from the team that drew with Worcestershire last time out.
The visitors - who face a gruelling schedule themselves having beaten Lancashire in a Twenty20 Cup bowl out today at Old Trafford - will wait until the morning as they decide who from Ben Phillips and Andrew Caddick will take the last place in the bowling attack.
