Adams in fitness race

Sussex captain Chris Adams’ fitness will be tested on the morning of their LV County Championship Division One match against Surrey at the Brit Oval.

Leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is ruled out as he is still experiencing discomfort in a knee, giving off-spinner Ollie Rayner another chance to impress after picking up seven wickets against Lancashire.

Luke Wright and Matt Prior are unavailable due to their England commitments ahead of the NatWest Series against South Africa, with Andrew Hodd taking over the gloves from Prior.

Ragheb Aga returns from international duty with Kenya and takes his place in the squad alongside England Under-19 international Will Beer.

The addition of Corey Collymore and Rory Hamilton-Brown are the other changes to the team which drew with Lancashire two weeks ago.

Surrey have secured the services of Alex Tudor on loan from Essex and he has gone straight into the squad for this week's game.

James Benning also returns after missing most of the season with an ongoing back injury, with Matthew Spriegel and Chris Jordan (hip) left out from the team which played Somerset in a high-scoring draw last week.

Mark Ramprakash will once again lead the side in the absence of Mark Butcher, who continues to recuperate from a knee operation.

Murtaza Hussain is the extra spin option in the squad, alongside Saqlain Mushtaq and part-time left-armer Usman Afzaal.
