No play possible at the Oval
The first day of Surrey’s LV= County Championship Division One match against Worcestershire at the Kia Oval was abandoned without play.

A bleak scene at the Kia Oval where there was no play on day one of the championship contest between Surrey and Worcestershire
Despite two spells of bright sunshine, at lunchtime and then again for a briefer time in mid-afternoon, the teams were thwarted by the inclement weather and the umpires decided to call it a day at 4.25pm.
The Oval groundstaff worked hard throughout to make conditions playable, but steady drizzle during the morning and then heavier rain for an hour immediately following a 1.40pm inspection eventually put paid to their efforts.
There was just time, however, before the first lengthy spell of rain, for Worcestershire captain Daryl Mitchell to win the toss and choose to field first when the match finally begins.
Surrey are without Jacques Rudolph for this game after the left-hander flew home to South Africa for family reasons.
