Hove falls foul of rain again
Sussex suffered more frustration due to the weather when the first day of their LV= County Championship Division One clash with Lancashire at the PROBIZ County Ground was washed out.
Umpires Mark Benson and Nick Cook made the decision shortly after 1pm; although the rain had stopped, the outfield was saturated.
The decision also delayed Ajmal Shahzad’s possible Lancashire debut following his high-profile cross-Pennines move from Yorkshire until the end of the season.
Sussex have only played for 42.1 overs in the past six days of first-class cricket at Hove.
Just 8.1 overs were possible on the final two days of their last championship game against Warwickshire, with the tour match versus West Indies seeing only 34 overs in three days.
With a bleak overnight forecast, the chances of the ground, normally one of the quickest-drying in the country, being fit for a prompt start tomorrow appear remote.
