Marcus Trescothick is waiting to discover the full extent of a quad muscle injury suffered in Somerset’s LV County Championship victory over Northamptonshire.
The opener, who was included in England’s provisional 30-man squad for the World Twenty20 Championships, hit 69 not out as the hosts romped home by nine wickets at Taunton.
He had to bat with a runner in the second half of his innings and was in noticeable discomfort as he led his side past the finishing post.
After receiving treatment immediately after the game, Trescothick said: “I felt something as I set off for a run and it feels like a strained muscle. I'm told it is a problem with a quad.
“We will have to see how it settles down overnight and I will probably have a better idea about the damage in the morning. At the moment it is too early to say how serious it is.
“It didn't really affect my batting and if I could have (runner) Craig Kieswetter running for me all the time I would make thousands! He's like lightning between the stumps.”
Trescothick was already under treatment for a niggling groin problem and, although the new injury is not thought to be related, it remains a concern following his inclusion in the Twenty20 squad.
Despite the setback, Trescothick was delighted to see his efforts help Somerset back to the top of the second division.
"We're in a great position now and we are thinking about winning the division rather than clinching promotion," he added.
