Watch highlights of day three as Warwickshire take on Yorkshire at Edgbaston

Yorkshire inflicted Warwickshire's first home defeat in 14 LV= County Championship Division One matches by an innings and 139 runs at Edgbaston.

The hosts collapsed to be all out for 140 after an Adil Rashid century helped the White Rose county, who are enjoying life back in the top flight, to a 279-run first-innings lead.

First-ball wickets for Tim Bresnan and Ryan Sidebottom then set off an alarmingly speedy demise for the champions, late on the third day.

Varun Chopra and Will Porterfield were leg-before straightaway before Darren Maddy and Tim Ambrose edged to second slip for Adam Lyth's fourth and fifth catches in the match.

Sidebottom and Bresnan, who took 3-23 and 3-41 respectively, swung the new ball under cloud cover before Steven Patterson quelled brief resistance in a spell of 3-19. Bresnan finished the job at 5pm when Tim Milnes was caught behind.

Jim Troughton was an exception to the rule of confusion, unbeaten with 65 in his side's first-day disintegration for 128 and again top-scorer in the second innings with 37 until he was lbw to Sidebottom.

Batting for 20 minutes over five hours in the match, he set an example, which, sadly for him and Warwickshire, was not followed by others.

Yorkshire may have enjoyed the best of the conditions, both when batting and bowling, but Andrew Gale's side made the most of their opportunities in registering a third win in five games since returning to the top flight.

They even headed the table while rain delayed Middlesex's victory charge against Somerset at Taunton.

Just as impressive has been the re-launch of Rashid's career as a number six batsman. Having scored his first hundred in nearly four years against Somerset last week, he made it two in a row when organising maximum support from the lower order.

In all, the last three wickets put on 93 and more importantly the extra runs chipped away at Warwickshire's confidence by keeping them in the field for more than 90 minutes on the third morning.

Rashid did have a big slice of luck when, without adding to his overnight 68, he was bowled by a no-ball from Chris Wright. Other than that escape, he played with the certainty of a player in prime form.

His partners each made contributions either in time or runs. While Liam Plunkett stayed for 10 overs, Sidebottom played the shot of the day with an off-drive for four and Patterson cleared midwicket for six.

Off-spinner Jeetan Patel picked up the last two wickets for figures of 5-56, leaving Rashid - who hit 12 fours and a six - undefeated with 110 in replicating back-to-back centuries against Hampshire and Lancashire in August 2009.
