No play all day at Edgbaston
There was familiar frustration at Edgbaston as the second day of the LV= County Championship match between Warwickshire and Derbyshire fell victim to inclement weather.
The defending champions had been set to resume this morning on 14 without loss in reply to Derbyshire’s 226 – a total boosted by 68 from number nine Tony Palladino.
However, drizzle initially kept the players from taking the field and even when the rain stopped, umpires Michael Gough and Jeremy Lloyds deemed conditions unsuitable.
Although Edgbaston’s floodlights were switched on, play is not able to commence if the artificial light has taken over from the natural light, as was the case today.
Any hope of seeing some action – at a ground blighted by abandonments in 2012 – lapsed at 4:15pm when proceedings were called off without a ball bowled.
Meanwhile, Warwickshire have registered Sam Hain, a 17-year-old batsman who was born in Hong Kong and brought up in Australia.
