Rain continues to hammer Edgbaston
The Edgbaston nightmare continued with the abandonment of the third day in Warwickshire’s LV= County Championship match with Sussex.
Having called off Friday’s play at lunchtime, umpires Ian Gould and Steve Gale arrived at the ground this morning to find surface water was still standing at the Pavilion End after more rain overnight.
A midday inspection was sufficient to make this the ninth full day lost out of the last 15 scheduled for cricket at the Birmingham Test venue.
With the initial disruption occurring in England fixtures or the county’s limited-overs matches, this is the first time that Edgbaston’s battering by the weather has hit Warwickshire’s challenge at the top of the Division One championship table.
The match with Sussex has been at a standstill since Thursday, when the home side reached 175 for three after winning the toss on a rain-interrupted day.
