Worcester washout hits Somerset
Somerset’s hopes of making up ground on Division One leaders Durham were hit by rain on the first day of their LV= County Championship match against Worcestershire at New Road.
A washout damaged their chances of taking advantages of their opponents' plight, trapped at the bottom of the table and without a win on their return to the top-flight.
They are now struggling with injuries in the pace bowling department.
With Simon Jones to be released at the end of the season because of ongoing knee problems, Kabir Ali is again out with a back strain and Ashley Noffke has an ankle injury and misses his last match before returning to Australia on Monday.
Matt Mason, who took 7-39 in the recent defeat by Lancashire at Old Trafford, is easily the most experienced member of the seam attack waiting to take on the likes of Justin Langer and Marcus Trescothick.
Somerset, 36 points behind Durham with a game in hand, will now have only three days in which to set up their fourth win in five games.
