Worcestershire on the brink

Lv County Championship

Steven Davies, who will play for Surrey next season, and his team-mates are close to relegation

Worcestershire host Hampshire in the LV= County Championship at New Road - a game that will surely confirm the hosts' relegation from Division One.

Worcestershire, who are yet to win in the championship this season, trail Hampshire in the table by 57 points and there is no hope of survival.

Steven Davies, who will join Surrey for next season, continues behind the stumps but fellow Surrey signing, Gareth Batty, is not involved in the squad.

Meanwhile Worcestershire have granted fast bowler Kabir Ali, who also misses out, permission to speak to other counties until September 30.

Imran Arif also misses out against Hampshire.

Hampshire have named a 13-man squad with trio David Balcombe, James Tomlinson and Chris Tremlett added to the side that drew with Somerset.

The trio will fight it out for just one bowling slot in the starting XI with Hampshire set to announce their side later today or early tomorrow.

Danny Briggs is the player to miss out for tactical reasons from the eleven that started against Somerset.
