Yorkshire’s promotion bid was again hit by rain as they suffered a washout for the second successive day against Gloucestershire at Scarborough.

Torrential rain throughout the morning at North Marine Road left umpires David Millns and Steve O'Shaughnessy with no other choice but to call play off at 1:15pm.

It was Yorkshire's 13th blank day of the season and leaves captain Andrew Gale to ponder whether to be content with a draw on the final day or attempt to engineer a result.

A draw would leave the White Rose attempting to pick up as many bonus points as possible, with maximum batting points enough to move them just two behind second-placed Hampshire with both teams having two games to play.

Gloucestershire will, however, be wary of leaving Yorkshire with anything too generous to chase should an agreement be reached.

In a rain-hit encounter at Bristol in May, the visitors were set 400 to win - and they romped home by four wickets in the second highest successful run-chase in the club's history.

Yorkshire have now lost a total of 8,561 minutes of championship cricket this season which is equivalent to almost 24 days' play out of a total of 55.
