Only 8.5 overs were possible as rain ruled at Canterbury, where Kent slightly stretched their lead over Yorkshire in the LV= County Championship Division Two clash.

Brendan Nash moved on to 132 not out on a day where Kent's efforts to force a result at Canterbury were hampered by inclement weather

Resuming after a delayed start at noon, Kent improved on their overnight 316 for six and had reached 350 for nine, securing a valuable lead of 103 - and a fourth batting bonus point - when the rain arrived.

Kent’s new overseas signing, West Indies international Brendan Nash, consolidated on his second day century and was 132 not out when the heavens opened at 12.40pm.

Nash saw three partners go at the other end in the 40 minutes' play that was possible.

Tim Bresnan took two wickets in as many balls, with James Tredwell departing for 37 after Phil Jaques took a sharp catch at second slip, while Matt Coles was caught behind off the next delivery.

Mark Davies survived the hat-trick ball but was comprehensively bowled in the next over by Adil Rashid after missing a back-foot defensive prod.

Having reached 350 and a three-figure lead, Kent are more than likely to declare overnight, but a poor forecast for the last day may scupper their chances of forcing a victory.
