Washout at Headingley
Day one of Yorkshire’s LV= County Championship Division Two clash with Essex at Headingley Carnegie was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain and a waterlogged outfield.
The inclement weather means White Rose fans will have to wait a little longer to see Australian batsman Phil Jaques in action following his return to the county he represented in 2004 and 2005.
The good news for Yorkshire was that Jaques’ registration as a non-overseas player had been cleared at Lord's yesterday after the left-hander had met the England and Wales Cricket Board on Monday.
