Wainwright in for Rashid
Adil Rashid’s England Lions call means Yorkshire hand a first chance of the season to left-arm spinner David Wainwright for their LV= County Championship Division One match with struggling Worcestershire at Headingley Carnegie.
Wainwright is the only change to the squad that travelled to Chester-le-Street for the drawn match with Durham.
Yorkshire have still to decide on their preferred opening partnership in four-day cricket.
Andrew Gale walked out with Jacques Rudolph in the first innings at Durham, but Joe Sayers was bumped up from number eight to open alongside Rudolph when Yorkshire batted again.
Ajmal Shahzad and Steve Patterson are likely to battle it out for the final seamer’s spot.
Michael Vaughan has another chance to impress the England selectors ahead of Wednesday, when the squad for the first Test against West Indies on May 6 will be announced.
Vaughan made 82 as Yorkshire beat Sussex in the Friends Provident Trophy on Sunday.
There is still no sign of the overseas player, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, who has until 5pm on May 1 to report for action at Headingley Carnegie, or risk having his contract terminated.
Rana, the Pakistan all-rounder, has had problems securing a work permit to play cricket in England.
Alexei Kervezee is tasked with filling Stephen Moore’s shoes with the Worcestershire opener also on Lions duty.
Kervezee, 19, has recently returned from Netherlands’ successful World Cup qualifying campaign in South Africa, and is named in a 12-man squad.
With Kabir Ali (hamstring) and Simon Jones (knee) both out for at least the next month, bowling coach Matt Mason leads an attack including Imran Arif, Chris Whelan and Ashley Noffke.
Veteran batsman Ben Smith dislocated a finger in the Royals’ 52-run FP Trophy win over Ireland on Sunday and is a minor doubt.
Worcestershire have suffered two innings defeats to Hampshire and Nottinghamshire on their return to Division One.
