Lord's development a step closer
The latest project to give Lord’s a facelift gathered pace as the MCC chose their preferred property developers.
The MCC announced they are to enter a period of exclusive discussion with Almacantar over the planned building of apartments on the Wellington Road, at the ground’s Nursery End.
Almacantar have been selected from a three-company shortlist which also included Capital & Counties and Native Land.
An MCC statement read: “This completed the work of the club’s development committee and further negotiations will now begin immediately, led by the executive with assistance from a smaller team of experts.”
The capacity of Lord’s is expected to rise considerably from 29,500, while an indoor cricket school, banqueting and conference facilities also form part of the plan tagged by the MCC as the ‘Vision for Lord’s’.
MCC secretary and chief executive Keith Bradshaw said: “We are delighted to have selected Almacantar and to have reached this important milestone.
“We have been impressed with the quality of their submission, which demonstrates a high degree of inventive thinking; something entirely appropriate for such an iconic venue as Lord’s.
“We will now work with them through the exclusivity period to shape the emerging proposals for the Nursery Ground, Indoor School and residential opportunities so that we can refine the financial model before presenting back to committees.”
