Griffith named new MCC president
Former Sussex captain Mike Griffith has been appointed as the next president of Marylebone Cricket Club.
Griffith was chosen by the current president, Phillip Hodson, who announced the decision at the club’s AGM this afternoon.
Griffith played for both England and Great Britain at hockey and is the only person to have played both first-class cricket and international hockey at Lord’s. He will take up his new role on October 1.
Hodson said: “In my opinion, Mike is exactly what MCC require in a president - he has an in-depth knowledge of the club, a passion for Lord’s, and a great love of cricket. His CV speaks for itself.
“He is a wonderful, caring man, who will be ideal in this role at this time in the club’s history.”
Hodson also said that the club’s ground working party would be given a free hand to develop a new masterplan for Lord’s.
