MCC goes green
MCC, which is renowned for its red and yellow colours, is going green - in partnership with npower.
Under a new agreement between MCC and the energy provider, Lord’s will be powered by 'green electricity' under npower’s 'Energy Solutions' package.
The partnership reflects MCC's commitment to operating in an increasingly environmentally responsible way, as well as npower's position as a market leader in renewable power - with a portfolio of energy sources that includes wind farms and hydro-electric schemes.
Keith Bradshaw, MCC secretary and chief executive, said: “MCC is famous for its red and yellow club colours, but we are also committed to becoming greener.
“We're delighted to be working with npower and look forward to Lord's being powered through its 'green electricity' package.
“This is a really exciting partnership between two of the biggest names in cricket."
npower chief executive Andy Duff added: "We're very proud to be powering Lord's with our 'green electricity'.
“It's a fantastic hat-trick for npower as we're already providing 'green electricity' to the Millennium Stadium and the new Wembley Stadium as well."
The 'green electricity' will come on stream at Lord's later this year, on the expiry of MCC's current energy contract
Other recent environmental initiatives from MCC have included the launch, last autumn, of a five-year partnership, between the club and Climate Care, to make its overseas cricket tours 'climate neutral'.
In addition, MCC has been taking measures to reduce its water consumption, boost its recycling rates and use environmentally-friendly printing methods.
