Patel destroys Durham students
Samit Patel amassed a first-class-best 256 as Nottinghamshire demolished Durham MCCU by 541 runs at Trent Bridge.
Michael Lumb made 83 of a 210-run opening stand with Patel, who faced 224 balls from which he smashed 12 sixes and 29 fours as Notts piled up 396 for three declared.
Despite dismissing their opponents for 142, of which Chaitanya Bishnoi contributed 54, Notts batted again and posted 408 for nine declared with a century from Steven Mullaney and Freddie van den Bergh taking 4-84.
Set a fanciful 663 to win, the students limped to 121 all out.

James Vince and Adam Wheater struck hundreds, the latter’s unbeaten and from just 70 balls, and Jimmy Adams 96 in the hosts’ 377 for four declared.
After David Griffiths’ 5-68 had helped limit the students to 163 all out, Michael Carberry reached three figures in a score of 189 for one declared.
Chasing 404 for victory, Loughborough were undermined by 5-41 from Vince and dismissed for 248.
