Durham rout students
Durham completed their pre-season preparations by administering a crushing defeat on Durham MCCU at the Racecourse Ground.
In the last friendly to be played before the LV= County Championship starts on Friday, Durham wrapped up an innings-and-44-run triumph shortly after tea on the final day.
Having declared on their overnight 471 for eight - a total built around Ian Blackwell’s 158 and an unbeaten 107 from Liam Plunkett - Durham bowled the students out for just 192.
Ben Stokes followed up his half-century yesterday with figures of 4-33 and a run-out, while Blackwell capped a fine all-round performance by 2-38.
Shan Masood was the only batsmen to offer anything resembling sustained resistance, although he was left stranded on 58 not out as Stokes claimed three of the last four wickets to fall.
Durham meet Hampshire at the Rose Bowl in their opening championship encounter, one of seven matches that get under way that day.
