Lancashire’s seamers shone as the county champions made short work of dismissing Cambridge MCCU in their final pre-season encounter.

Kyle Hogg, Tom Smith, Luke Procter and Sajid Mahmood were all in the wickets, with Cambridge being bowled out for 123. Simon Kerrigan only bowled a solitary over, but that will worry the Red Rose little given the form he showed in the Champion County game.

In reply, Lancashire - who posted 348 for seven declared in their first innings - also impressed with the bat as Tom Smith’s 70-ball 83 helped them close on 134 for one.

Ben Stokes once again displayed early-season form as Durham moved into a dominant position against Durham MCCU.

Having fallen for 93 in the county’s first innings, the all-rounder struck 65 second time round to help his side to 193 for seven.

That came after the university side were dismissed for 117, meaning they trailed by 391 runs heading into the final day, with Durham likely to declare overnight.

William Tavaré’s defiant 61 did not stop Loughborough MCCU being bowled out for just 166 by Hampshire, who posted a first-innings 445 on day one.

Chris Wood claimed 5-41 for the county side, who then closed on 11 for one after Adam Soilleux trapped opener Liam Dawson leg before.

Will Porterfield and Warwickshire skipper Jim Troughton struck fifties on a rain-affected second day against Cardiff MCCU.

With Cardiff having been dismissed for just 119 on day one, the county side took their score on to 261 for six having resumed on 82 for three at Edgbaston.
