White Rose struggle against university side
Yorkshire found themselves in trouble on the opening day of their clash with Leeds/Bradford MCCU.
Having elected to bat, the university side were indebted to tailender Alexander MacQueen’s 79-ball 69 as they posted a first-innings total of 211.
In reply, a Yorkshire batting line-up similar to the one that took on Kent in the LV= County Championship last week faltered in the face of some impressive bowling.
Luis Reece was the chief destroyer, taking 3-20 as the White Rose were reduced to 80 for six at Headingley Carnegie.
Overseas signing Michael Klinger found some form as Worcestershire’s top three impressed against Oxford MCCU at the Parks.
Australian recruit Klinger struck 120, while Daryl Mitchell and Vikram Solanki hit 60 and 83 respectively as Worcestershire closed on 323 for five.
Leicestershire put in a solid performance with the bat against hosts Loughborough MCCU.
Opener Greg Smith top-scored with 85 for the county side and there were also useful contributions from Matthew Boyce, Jacques du Toit, Josh Cobb and Ned Eckersley.
But former West Indies skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan, leading the side, managed only 12 as Leicestershire ended the day on 302 for seven.
