Luis Reece struck an unbeaten half-century as Leeds/Bradford MCCU extended their lead over Yorkshire on the second day at Headingley Carnegie despite four wickets from Anthony McGrath.

The White Rose could only add another 55 to their overnight 80 for six, with Reece and Joe Leach taking three wickets apiece.

McGrath returned impressive figures of 4-28 from 10 overs as the university side slipped to 56 for six. But Reece, with 58, and Tom Hardman, who made 28 not out, took their side to 127 for six at the close, a healthy lead of 203.

Cambridge MCCU started to make inroads into Worcestershire’s first-innings score after half-centuries from Sam Agarwal and Owain Jones at the Parks.

James Cameron struck 88 and Ben Scott compiled 73 before visiting captain Daryl Mitchell declared on 464 for seven.

Cambridge’s reply started badly as fit-again Gareth Andrew removed Benjamin Stebbings, but Agarwal and Jones put on 145 for the second wicket to frustrate Worcestershire.

The pair finally departed in quick succession for 76 and 79 respectively, leaving Freddie Coleman and Ben Williams, who made an unbeaten 30 from 44 balls, to lead their side to the close on 213 for three, still 251 runs behind.

Tom Wells starred with the ball as Leicestershire continued to dominate their match with Loughborough MCCU.

Toby Lester’s two early breakthroughs helped dismiss Leicestershire for 320, but Wells doubled Lester’s tally to return figures of 4-46 from 13 overs.

Despite 50 from Nitesh Patel, Loughborough were all out for just 158, 164 runs adrift after Leicestershire finished the day on two without loss.
