Leeds/Bradford MCCU brush Sussex aside
Luis Reece returned outstanding match figures of 10-68 as Leeds/Bradford MCCU comfortably beat Sussex by 79 runs at Weetwood.
After Kirk Wernars claimed 4-28 to dismiss Leeds/Bradford for 164, Reece produced a remarkable spell of bowling to help his team into a first-innings lead of 106.
The 21-year-old seamer, who at one stage boasted scarcely-believable figures of 5-0, returned 7-21 off 10.3 overs as Sussex were skittled for just 58.
The hosts left Sussex 255 for victory after declaring on 149 for nine in their second outing, Harry Bush top-scoring with 46.
Sussex were well on their way at 143 for three thanks to 76 from Matt Machan, only for Ivan Thomas to trigger a collapse that saw seven wickets fall for 33 runs.
Thomas claimed 6-21 off 16 overs and was supported by the impressive Reece, who chipped in with 3-47.
Rain prevented a positive result at the Parks as Oxford MCCU’s match against Kent ended in a disappointing draw.
Kent, who won the toss, were boosted by Alex Blake’s 97 and 89 from on-loan Middlesex opening batsman Scott Newman as they declared on 251 for eight, with Sam Agarwal taking 4-49.
In reply, Oxford were in trouble at 12 for two, but half-centuries from Ben Williams and Charlie Walker got them back on track.
Oxford were reduced to 192 for seven when rain intervened as Blake took 3-10 in a seven-over burst.
