McLaren gets Proteas call

Ryan McLaren is contracted to Kent and will need to be released for the ODI series

Cricket South Africa have called uncapped Kent all-rounder Ryan McLaren into the squad for the upcoming one-day series against Kenya and Bangladesh.

He has also been included in the International Pro20 squad for the match against Bangladesh, along with fellow new cap and all-rounder Rory Kleinveldt.

McLaren’s selection is dependant on him being released by Kent, to whom he is under contract at present.

Spinner Johan Botha has been appointed vice-captain for the ODI series.

“Johan is to be congratulated on his promotion,” said acting selection convener Gerald Majola.

“He will in all probability captain the side in the two matches against Kenya as we only expect Graeme Smith to recover from injury in time for the MTN ODI series against Bangladesh.”

Six additional players - Alviro Petersen, Leicestershire’s Dillon du Preez, Johann Louw, Wayne Parnell, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Dean Elgar - have also been selected to practise with the ODI squad ahead of the start of the Series.

The Proteas will play two one-dayers against Kenya, the first on October 31, followed by a Twenty20 match and three ODIs against Bangladesh.

They will than play two Test matches against Bangladesh in the latter half of November.

ODI squad (to play two ODIs against Kenya and three against Bangladesh): Graeme Smith (capt), Johan Botha, Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Ryan McLaren, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Justin Ontong, Dale Steyn, Monde Zondeki.
