Bell sparkles on Warwickshire's day

Neil Carter, second left, tore through Derbyshire's top order to put the mockers on any hopes of a fightback at Edgbaston
England batsman Ian Bell demonstrated his limited-overs prowess with a century in Warwickshire’s thumping 110-run win against Derbyshire at Edgbaston in NatWest Pro40 Division Two.
Bell (105), left out of the NatWest Series squad playing Australia in seven one-day internationals, hit 12 fours and a six at better than a run a ball as the Bears piled up 246 for six.
Derbyshire’s reply was in trouble from the outset and lasted less than 30 overs, seamers Neil Carter and Sreesanth each taking three wickets as the visitors were bowled out for only 136.
It was the last county match at Edgbaston before the old pavilion, built in the 1890s, is demolished to make way for a £30million redevelopment.
Leaders Kent came unstuck against Lancashire at Old Trafford, where the hosts prevailed by 25 runs after rain forced a Duckworth/Lewis result, which means Lightning are now only a point off the top of the table.
The Spitfires were grounded on 93 for six from 26 overs after choosing to bat first - and although Justin Kemp (44) hinted at a minor revival, they were still able to post only 162 all out in their full 40. Seamer Steven Mullaney (3-36) was Lancashire’s most successful bowler.
Lancashire were then well-placed on 80 for one when the rain which had been threatening arrived - and stayed.
Glamorgan remain rooted to the foot of the table after losing to Leicestershire by 23 runs at Grace Road.
No one managed a half-century for the Foxes, who won the toss and mustered 217 for eight thanks to Boeta Dippenaar’s 49 not out.
Will Bragg struck 78 from 93 balls at number three, but lost partners at regular intervals. Wayne White helped mop up the tail with 4-36.
