TwelfthMan: My account
A last-ball six by Jade Dernbach gave Surrey Brown Caps a dramatic win over Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road but it was not enough to keep their NatWest Pro 40 promotion hopes alive.
A victory for Middlesex over Somerset put paid to Surrey's bid to clinch third place in Division Two and reach the promotion play-off.
But they made a superb fight of it with a thrilling one-wicket victory having been set a target of 232.
Half-centuries by Mark Ramprakash and Mark Butcher put them in a strong position before the Foxes hit back with some vital wickets in mid-innings.
But with 10 wanted off the final over bowled by off-spinner Jigar Naik, Matt Nicholson struck a four and then with two runs required off the final delivery Dernbach hit a six over long-off.
The over also produced two wickets for the Foxes with Chris Jordan stumped by Paul Nixon and then Murtaza Hussain run out next ball.
But Nicholson and Dernbach kept their composure to give Surrey the win with Nicholson finishing on 57 not out off 31 balls having hit seven fours and two sixes.
But it was the earlier efforts of Ramprakash and Butcher that steered Surrey into a winning position.
West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor removed openers Scott Newman and James Benning in the first five overs and when Ali Brown was bowled by David Masters to lead Surrey 63 for three, the Foxes looked on top.
But Ramprakash with a well crafted 72 off 64 balls and Butcher, who made 62 off 68 balls, regained the initiative for the visitors.
Taylor finished with 3-33 and although Naik bowled impressively and claimed three wickets, his last two overs cost a total of 28 runs.
Leicestershire made 231 for eight after winning the toss with John Sadler top-scoring with 62 off 68 balls.
Sadler shared a partnership of 105 with Tom New who was out for 51 before Paul Nixon made a typically breezy 40 off 42 balls including two reverse sweets for six.
Chris Jordan and Rory Hamilton-Brown claimed three wickets each as the Foxes lost their way in the latter part of the innings, leaving Surrey with a competitive target.
