Dragons slayed by Foxes

Glamorgan Dragons are still without a win in the NatWest Pro40 after crashing to a 115-run defeat against Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road.

The Foxes posted a total of 283 for five and then dismissed the Dragons for 168 with off-spinner Jigair Naik claiming 3-24 in his first senior game of the season.

Only Glamorgan's captain David Hemp offered any resistance with a half-century and defeat - the Dragons' sixth in seven matches - leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Division Two table.

It was Leicestershire's third win of the season - but Kent's victory over Yorkshire ended the Foxes’ slim hopes of reaching the play-offs.

An opening stand of 85 in 14 overs between John Maunders and Hylton Ackerman set the Foxes on their way before Dean Cosker finally made a breakthrough.

Ackerman sliced a catch into the covers having made 48 off 39 balls. Maunders was then bowled by Robert Croft with the total at 98 but the game was taken away from the Dragons with a fine partnership of 137 in 19 overs between Jim Allenby and Paul Nixon.

Both of them hit half-centuries with Allenby top-scoring with 70 off 69 balls and Nixon making 60 off 54 balls.

The Foxes scored 56 off the last five overs to pile up their biggest total of the season in the competition.

With Jerome Taylor claiming two early wickets the Dragons were immediately on the back foot and only Hemp's battling innings of 59 off 64 balls kept them in the hunt.

But no other batsman managed anything better than 16 and Foxes' spinners Naik and Henderson had them in trouble on a helpful pitch.

Naik claimed the wickets of Michael O'Shea and Adam Harrison in successive deliveries but it was Henderson who picked up the all-important scalp of Hemp.

The innings folded rapidly after that with Glamorgan dismissed with more than six overs still remaining.

All the Foxes bowlers claimed wickets with Taylor taking 2-32 and Henderson 2-37.

But it leaves Glamorgan without a win in the competition and they are now bottom of both the LV County Championship and NatWest Pro40 tables.
