Old Trafford clash abandoned

Rain washed out the NatWest Pro40 match at Old Trafford

Tuesday’s NatWest Pro40 Division One match between Lancashire Lightning and Sussex Sharks at Old Trafford has been abandoned.

Although the weather has been dry over the past week, Old Trafford has still not fully recovered from the seven weeks of rain following the June Test match, and heavy rain overnight plus persistent showers during the day have made the ground unsafe to play on.

Umpires John Holder and Jeff Evans had no choice but to call the match off two hours before the scheduled start.

There looked to be no possibility of the outfield drying up in time for any sort of match to take place and the teams had to settle for a point each.
