Only six overs were possible in Yorkshire’s floodlit NatWest Pro40 match against Warwickshire at Headingley Carnegie.
Rain brought about an abandonment at 7pm with the visitors 28 for one after winning the toss.
Each side took one point from the no-result and Yorkshire need to beat Northamptonshire in their final match at Wantage Road on Saturday to be sure of promotion to Division One.
Rikki Clarke was making his first appearance for Warwickshire after his arrival from Derbyshire, while the Bears also gave a competition debut to pace bowler Calum MacLeod.
Play began at 5.45pm in a match reduced to 33 overs a side because of a wet outfield following heavy rain earlier in the day.
Despite considerable seam movement for Deon Kruis and Tim Bresnan, there were early boundaries for Jonathan Trott and Neil Carter.
Trott took four off Bresnan before the left-handed Carter hit boundaries off Kruis on either side of the wicket and Trott steered Bresnan to the third man fence.
The pair had taken Warwickshire to 22 by the fifth over when Trott edged a beautiful outswinger to be behind by Gerard Brophy for 11.
Carter was fortunate to see an inside edge off Bresnan evade his stumps, but shortly afterwards the rain came down and umpires Allan Jones and Neil Bainton had no option but to call the game off.
Carter finished unbeaten on 12 off 17 deliveries - all his runs came in boundaries - while Jim Troughton was two not out.
