Mark Wagh has signed a three-year deal with Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire have continued to rebuild their squad for 2007 by signing Warwickshire top-order batsman Mark Wagh.

The 30-year-old is the third new player to move to Trent Bridge this winter, following the signing of Will Jefferson and Rob Ferley, and director of cricket Mick Newell has pinpointed the right-hander to fill the number three spot in the batting order.

Newell said: “Mark is an accomplished batsman and I believe he can be the answer for us at number three in the Championship.

“It’s been a problem position for us for the last couple of seasons but Mark has all the attributes to be a success there.

“I’m confident he’s got plenty of good years ahead of him and along with Jason Gallian and Will Jefferson, I think we now have a high-quality top order.

“I’ve seen him play well against us on a number of occasions, so I’ve always kept an eye on his progress, and I’m delighted he’s signed.

“I’ve been looking to freshen up the squad and Mark joining has continued that process. Hopefully there will be more signings to follow soon.”

Wagh, who made his Warwickshire debut against his new county in 1997, has scored 8,077 first class runs at an average of 37.74, with 20 hundreds and a high score of 315.

He has signed a three-year contract and said: “There’s real talent in the dressing room and I’m sure we will be competing for silverware.”
