Somerset’s wicket-keeper/batsman Rob Turner has agreed to stay with the county and signed a new one-year contract.
Turner, who will be 37 later this month, has been Somerset’s first-choice stumper for the last 10 years and holds the county’s record for the most dismissals in an innings, seven against Northamptonshire at Taunton in 2001.
Last season he claimed 65 first class victims to take his total for the county to 659, which puts him in fourth place in the list of Somerset wicket-keepers, behind Harold Stephenson (1007), Wally Luckes (827) and Derek Taylor (661).
Turner has also scored over 8,000 first class runs and was selected for England A’s tour to Bangladesh and New Zealand in 1999-2000.
After signing his new contract, Turner said: “I am delighted to have agreed a new deal with the county and will be looking to continue my playing career with Somerset for the foreseeable future.”
