Derbyshire sign Hunter
Derbyshire have completed the signing of former Durham pace bowler Ian Hunter on a two-year contract commencing in April 2005.
The 24-year-old is a product of the Durham Academy and made his first class debut for Durham in 2000, taking 45 wickets at an average of 42 in 21 first class matches.
“He has the ability to bowl quickly and get the ball in the right areas consistently and that is good enough for me," said Derbyshire coach David Houghton.
Hunter added: "I am delighted to be joining Derbyshire, and excited at the prospect of working with such a renowned coach as David."
Derbyshire have also registered Ben France for the remainder of the 2004 season, and he will make his debut against Nottinghamshire at Derby on Thursday (19th Aug).
France is to sign a two-year contract later this week for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
France is a left-handed batsman who has impressed in the 2nd XI this season, scoring 138 against Leicestershire, and he is currently averaging 80.85 for Suffolk and recently scored 179 not out against Cambridgeshire.
Houghton said: “Ben has impressed at Minor County and Second XI level and his scores clearly show that, Karl Krikken has also been impressed with his attitude and commitment when playing for the Second XI.”
