Angus Porter takes over as chief executive from Vikram Solanki, who filled the role on a temporary basis
The Professional Cricketers’ Association has appointed Angus Porter as its new chief executive.
Porter, who previously filled leading roles at British Telecom and more recently Abbey National and Thomas Cook, will begin his new role next week.
He takes over from Worcestershire captain Vikram Solanki, who remains PCA chairman but has also been acting chief executive over the winter.
Porter said: “This is a dream role. The opportunity to apply my business experience to a sport I love is a chance not to be missed. I look forward to the many challenges ahead and to building strong relationships in the game.”
Solanki added: “I am delighted that Angus is joining us and that his passion for the game will help the PCA navigate the multiple cricket issues we are facing.
“With the 2010 domestic season starting in April, the timing of Angus’ arrival is perfect.”
Non-executive group chairman Anthony Wreford said: “We are delighted that Angus has decided to join the PCA.
“He brings proven business skills to the PCA which are critical given the PCA’s commercial activities.
"The PCA are particularly grateful to Vikram Solanki for stepping in as acting CEO during the winter months, a task he performed incredibly well.”
The PCA, the representative body for first-class players in England and Wales, has been looking for a permanent chief executive since Sean Morris stepped down last October.
