An ECB cricket discipline commission panel comprising David Gabbitass (chairman), Ricky Needham and Alistair Webster QC convened today at Lord’s to hear a charge brought by the ECB against Mark Ramprakash.
Ramprakash was charged with using crude language during the Surrey v Sussex LV County Championship match on August 20 2008 at the Brit Oval in that he repeatedly swore at one of the match umpires. Ramprakash pleaded guilty to the charge.
The following penalty was imposed:
Ramprakash is suspended from the first two LV County Championship matches in his county’s fixture schedule in 2009.
He is also fined £1,500 and ordered to pay costs of £1,000.
In imposing this penalty, the panel took into account that Ramprakash was captain at the time of the incident, his previous good character, and the facts that he was contrite, had unreservedly apologised to the umpires and had already been fined £1,000 by Surrey County Cricket Club.
The ECB will make no further comment.
