Ramprakash to skipper MCC
Mark Ramprakash will captain MCC in the first-class season curtain-raiser against county champions Lancashire in Abu Dhabi.
The traditional fixture has been played in the United Arab Emirates for the last two seasons under floodlights with a pink ball and the same conditions will be employed this year.
Former Australia international Tim May, the federation of international cricketers’ associations chief executive, will be in attendance to gather feedback on the pink ball from the players.
Ramprakash said: “It’s a great pleasure to be back in MCC’s colours after so many years, all the more so given I was originally picked to play in this match in 2010 but was unable to.
“I have never played with a pink ball before and I’m looking forward to negotiating this new challenge.
"Any innovation – such as floodlit cricket using pink balls – which could help increase the popularity of the game is to be welcomed.”
Also in the MCC squad are Derbyshire new boy Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Northamptonshire's Niall O’Brien and former England Test caps Gareth Batty and Ian Blackwell, who play for Surrey and Durham respectively.
