Kent 2nd XI win Championship

Kent have won their successive 2nd XI Championship after coming out victorious in four of the six games they played.

The 2nd XI Championship is run very differently to the Liverpool Victoria County Championship, with the MCC Young Cricketers also taking part, in addition to the 18 first-class counties.

Each team was allocated six mandatory fixtures and were allowed to organise additional fixtures of either three or four days, which could count towards the 2nd XI Championship table.

The Championship is then decided on an average number of points per game played basis.

This meant that Kent, who only played the six fixtures they had been given, scored 101 points at an average of 16.83 to see them top the table.

Joe Denly notched up Kent’s highest score of the season, making 166 against Surrey at Beckenham. In the same match, he made 55 in the second innings and took 6-89 to help clinch the title.

Sussex were second after playing nine games and averaging 14.89 points. They achieved five wins and four draws and were the only team to remain unbeaten throughout the competition.

Surrey played the most games, with 15 fixtures, and came in fourth with a 13.33 average.
