Scott Elstone made an unbeaten 82 from 80 balls to guide Notts into the Second XI Trophy final, where they will face Lancashire

Scott Elstone struck an unbeaten 82 before Jake Ball and Brett Hutton claimed three wickets apiece as Nottinghamshire set up a showdown with Lancashire in the final of the Second XI trophy following a 36-run victory over Glamorgan at Trent Bridge.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Neil Edwards and Akhil Patel, who made 41, put on 74 before Elstone smashed nine boundaries in his 80-ball stay to propel Notts to 216 for seven.

Glamorgan seemed to be well placed for victory at 158 for four with seven overs remaining following David Brown’s 74 and 56 from Ben Wright, but Ball took 3-25 and Hutton returned 3-55 to spark a dramatic collapse and see Notts, who were defeated by Essex in last year’s semi-final, advance into the final at Liverpool on September 12.

Batting first, Notts lost Karl Turner early before the experienced Edwards and Patel came together. However, when both departed, Notts slipped to 85 for three.

After the spinners slowed things down in the middle overs, Elstone manoeuvred the ball to all parts and completed his fifty off just 51 balls, with five fours.

He and England Under-19 Sam Kelsall combined to put on 54, to which the latter contributed 15, before Elstone guided his side to a competitive total from 40 overs.

In reply, Ball removed Mike O’Shea and Dan Roberts and, after Martin Weightman bowled Michael Powell, Glamorgan were struggling on 34 for three.

However, Brown and Wright’s partnership of 90 restored Glamorgan’s momentum until Hutton removed the pair either side of Ball dismissing David Lloyd.

The trio’s wickets sparked a collapse as Glamorgan were bowled out for 180 in the 36th over, with spinner Graeme White claiming 2-25.
