Shilvock rocks Kent 2nds
An impressive century from Berkshire opener Dan Shilvock (111 not out) paved the way for a comfortable win for Minor Counties against Kent 2nd XI in their Second XI Trophy game at Beckenham.
After a good all-round bowling and fielding performance restricted Kent to 217, Minor Counties moved smoothly to a five-wicket win in the June 24 South Division match.
Sam Northeast and James Hockley gave Kent a sound start, adding 48 for the first wicket before Northeast was caught behind off seamer Attiq Chisti in the 10th over.
Hockley followed soon after, bowled by the impressive Adam Syddall. Two smart run outs and tight bowling by off-spinners Chris Brown and Paul McMahon, on a wicket taking moderate spin, helped to reduce Kent to 124 for six from 35 overs.
Martin Saggers and Dan Stickels brought some respectability to the score, but 217 was hardly a challenging total.
After an early setback, losing Ben Patston in the first over, lbw to Saggers, Mitchell Stokes joined Shilvock. Together they added 99 for the second wicket in just 12 overs, before Stokes departed for 42 from just 30 balls.
Chisti too played aggressively for his 30 whilst Shilvock batted through untroubled to reach the target with nine overs to spare.
