Sussex land Hampshire opener

Sussex will begin the defence of their Second XI Championship crown with a clash against Hampshire at Hove.

Victors over Somerset in the final of last season’s three-day competition, Sussex get the 2008 season under way on April 16.

Derbyshire entertain Lancashire while Gloucestershire meet MCC Young Cricketers on the same day, the first of a campaign that will conclude in September.

The Second XI Trophy gets under way on June 9, when Hampshire host MCC YC at the Rose Bowl.

Middlesex, the reigning champions, are not in one-day action until June 23, when they travel to Billericay to face Essex.
