The England and Wales Cricket Board today confirmed that two cricketers have received penalty points or reprimands under the ECB’s discipline code.
Chris Woakes was reported by umpires Rob Bailey and Jeremy Lloyds for a Level Two breach of the code (bowling an accidental high full-pitched delivery that resulted in the bowler being disallowed from bowling further in the innings) following an incident in Warwickshire’s Twenty20 Cup quarter-final against Kent on July 10 2008.
He has received three penalty points, which will remain on his record for a period of two years. The accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any two-year period will result in an automatic suspension.
Chris Whelan was reported by umpires Terry Urben and John Harper for a Level One breach of the code (showing dissent to an umpire’s decision by word or action) following an incident in Worcestershire’s Second XI Trophy match against Gloucestershire on July 4 2008, and has received a reprimand.
This penalty remains on Whelan’s record for a period of two years. Any further Level One breach during that period will result in an automatic imposition of three penalty points.
