South African Kruger signs for Leicestershire
Leicestershire have announced the signing of Garnett Kruger from South Africa as their second overseas player.
Director of cricket, James Whitaker said: "Garnett Kruger, 24, is a fast bowler with a growing reputation who has recently been selected for the South African Test Squad versus the West Indies.
"I am delighted that Garnett has agreed to play county cricket for Leicestershire in 2004. I believe that he will add depth and quality to our bowling attack. Garnett is a very positive character with a strong work ethic who has a bright future ahead. I am very excited at the prospect of working with him".
Kruger himself commented: "It will be an honour to play county cricket for Leicestershire County Cricket Club. I am very excited about the 2004 English cricket season and I hope to help Leicestershire achieve the success that they strive for."
Kruger is currently enjoying a very successful domestic season Gauteng. He has taken 23 wickets in the South African domestic first-class season at an average of 30 with best figures of 6 for 112. He has a career best of 7 for 64.
Leicestershire have also announced that Luke Wright has been released from his contract.
Whitaker said: "We are building a competitive squad that I believe will challenge strongly in all competitions. It was felt that opportunities for Luke Wright to play first team cricket in the near future would be limited. My best wishes are extended to Luke and I hope he will have a successful career in cricket."
Wright said: " I would like to thank Leicestershire County Cricket Club for the cricket education that I have received. However, I feel that my opportunities for first team cricket would be enhanced at another club.
"I am grateful to the club for releasing me from my contract. I would like to wish Leicestershire County Cricket Club all the best for the future."
