Trescothick takes MVP

Marcus Trescothick's tally of 2,934 runs in all competitions was 587 more than the next most prolific batsman
Somerset opener Marcus Trescothick has been named the most valuable player for 2009 by the Professional Cricketers’ Association.
The former England batsman scored 2,934 runs in all competitions to earn a points total of 632 in the PCA’s ratings system, 50 more points than nearest challenger Ian Blackwell.
Durham all-rounder Blackwell, a former team-mate of Trescothick at Somerset, enjoyed a fine first season with his new county, scoring 1,314 runs and taking 69 wickets.
Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter was third in the table, which awards points for a number of factors including batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy, games played and games won.
Trescothick was comfortably the top run-scorer - 587 ahead of Jonathan Trott of Warwickshire and England, who finished 10th in the MVP - while Essex leg-spinner Danish Kaneria was the leading wicket-taker with 108.
Wicketkeeper Steven Davies finished fourth in his final season with Worcestershire before joining Surrey, while Northamptonshire all-rounder Andrew Hall completed the top five.
