Clarke issues ralliying call
Derbyshire skipper Rikki Clarke is urging supporters to turn out in force and create a good atmosphere as the Phantoms play their first home match of the competition against Lancashire Lightning at the County Ground on Friday at 7pm.
Clarke’s men are unbeaten at home in all competitions so far this season and the 26-year-old believes that the supporters can have a real part to play as his young team strive for success.
“The Twenty20 Cup is always an exciting time of year and – although winning matches in the competition is a very serious business – the players also enjoy the razzmatazz, the music, the big crowds and the fun factor that the competition brings.
“The results we have achieved in-front of our home crowd have been excellent so far this season and we now want to keep that going when the ground is at its fullest for Twenty20 cricket.
“When you come out to play in-front of a large expectant crowd and you know that most of them are on your side it inspires you, so I hope that the people of Derbyshire come out in force.
“We are a young, enthusiastic side and we are playing some good cricket this year – plus there is some very good Twenty20 pedigree in the team. My message is, come and watch us play cricket.”
The gates will open at 4pm with the action getting under way three hours later as the Phantoms aim for their second limited-overs victory over the Lightning this season following the 100-run triumph at the County Ground in May in the Friends Provident Trophy.
Supporters can save money by purchasing their tickets in advance – from the club shop on the Gateway Centre side of the County Ground - for £11 adults and £6 children. Admission on the day of the game will be priced at £14 adults and £7 children.
